# Discourse upgrade and new Event system

I just upgraded us to the latest Discourse version, `v2026.9.0-latest +29`.

One notable thing that came in a previous update, is that event and calendar management now comes built-in. In the past we used a plugin for this.

I assumed the plugin had been absorbed and that this would be a transparent change, but it seems it’s a new implementation which works a little differently.

Concretely, when composing a post, under the “+” menu on the right side of the editor toolbar, you now find a create event button:

When using the wysiwig editor, this looks like this:

And you simply fill out the field. In markdown mode the markup looks like this:

[event start="2026-08-26 17:00" end="2026-08-26 18:00" status="public" timezone="Europe/Berlin" reminders="notification.15.minutes"]
[/event]

```
