On Feb 25th, 2024, the Scicloj [visual-tools group](https://scicloj.github.io/docs/community/groups/visual-tools/) had its 21st meeting.

This was the first session on a short series about [ggplot2](https://ggplot2.tidyverse.org/), an [R](https://www.r-project.org/) package for grammar-of-graphics data visualization.

A few Clojure library authors, blog authors, and datavis practitioners participated, and we had a good discussion.

# Summary

- @respatialized read some comments from [The Grammar of Graphics](https://link.springer.com/book/10.1007/0-387-28695-0) book by Leland Wilkinson
- we saw how to use ggplot2 from Clojure using [ClojisR](https://github.com/scicloj/clojisr/) - see [notes](https://scicloj.github.io/clojure-data-scrapbook/projects/datavis/ggplot/study_session_20240225.html)
- discussed some grammar concepts and their manifestation in ggplot
- read a bit in the [GGplot2 Book](https://ggplot2-book.org/) by [Hadley Wickham](http://hadley.nz/), [Danielle Navarro](https://djnavarro.net/), and [Thomas Lin Pedersen](https://www.data-imaginist.com/)
- discussed possible plans for similar libraries in Clojure

## Next time

The next ggplot2 study session will take place in March 17th. We will announce it soon at Clojureverse and at the [Clojure Calendar Feed](https://v2.clojureverse.org/t/the-clojure-events-calendar-feed-turns-2/).
