Discourse Upgrade and Outgoing Emails - August 2026

Hello Clojureversians,

We had a bit of downtime today while I upgraded us to the latest Discourse, and brought back email delivery. We are now using Lettermint, a fairly young startup from the Netherlands, for outgoing emails, rather than Mailgun, which has enshittified significantly since this forum started.

Thank you to the person in my inbox we notified me they weren’t able to complete the registration process because email wasn’t working. We should be good now!

I’m not sure about incoming email. I’m also not sure if anyone still really cares… when this place started (back then as just the Chestnut mailing list) it was important to me that people could treat it as a mailing list, i.e. create topics and respond to topics directly from their email client. Most categories (subforums) have a specific email address set up for that, e.g. beginners@lists.clojureverse.org, which in theory allows you to do just that. But I would not be surprised if that’s been broken for a while, and I’m not sure if anyone cares.

I’m happy to look into it some other day though, I do think it’s still a useful thing to have. In particular we can use it as an opportunity to re-advertise the fact that projects are welcome to set up a categorie here and use it as their project discussion mailing list, for that retro FOSS feel.

Cheers!
