“The Secret Art of Storytelling in Programming”

Sometimes, reading code feels like a punishment: we have to read lines
and lines of boring code until we get to the point and in order to fix
it or to add a new feature, we need to make sure it doesn’t break the
existing behaviour of the code. In this talk, you will learn code
refactoring techniques in order to write code that flows like a
story. A story made of exciting adventures and without any boring
moments. A story that unfolds itself at the reader’s will. A story
where - at any line of code - the reader has a clear indication of
what is about to happen and the freedom to choose whether they prefer
to deep dive or to move forward. When code flows like a story, it is
not only more enjoyable to read. It is also easier to understand. It
takes less time to debug, and less effort to maintain.

Yehonathan Sharvit has over twenty years experience as a software
engineer, programming with C++, Java, Ruby, JavaScript, Clojure and
ClojureScript. He currently works as a software architect at Cycognito
building software infrastructures for high scale data pipelines. He
writes about software engineering at his blog, speaks at conferences,
and leads Functional Programming and Data-Oriented Programming
workshops around the world.
